Hmm. I just realised that the forums page isn’t working, therefore I’m going to remove the forums feature (XDforums for Wordpress) and replace it with phpBB. I found a phpBB mod which integrates it with Wordpress, so here goes! I’ll update this entry when the work is done.

Update : 1

New forum software installed. I’m now struggling with integrating it with the Wordpress side so the user database is shared between the two such that users won’t have to register twice. And that part’s giving me some problems which I’ll hopefully get sorted out today.

*sigh* Okay starting from the beginning again. :(

Update 3 : Argh. Despite spending hours and hours trying to get phpBB integrated with Wordpress (using wp-united), I’m just hitting brick wall after brick wall. I’ll give it another try today. Once again - argh.

Update 4 : This time it’s war. I’ve set up a development server in a virtual machine and will do all this with fresh installations of the software. Once I get everything perfected there I then have the opportunity of completely updating this site’s look, feel, and usability. Much better than trying to do all this on the “live” site - always a bad idea ;) I’m going to be looking for a fluid-width theme because the current theme I use for hackfud is very “claustrophobic” feeling. I also want to have a suitable logo for HackFUD for which I have some ideas. In the meantime I’ll squeeze in some time to watch for FUD and report on that too. I also have to teach the local Japanese kids English every week too so again that takes time away from my work here.
*phew* Being a one-man band (so far - anyone interested in helping out?) is a real time-sink. ;)

Update 5 : Yippee! I managed to get the integration working! Now what I’m going to do is redesign the site with a fluid layout and a new theme, so watch this space :)

Final Update : So here we go :) … Forums now fully integrated. Plus a new, fluid-width layout which I think I slightly leaner and cleaner. *whew* Now I can start concentrating on writing new articles (with the second priority of tweaking the web site.)
